About us

David Smith – Owner/ Director

I’m one of the lucky few to have grown up and still live in the beautiful seaside suburb of Camps Bay.
I joined the Cape Town Hospitality Industry in 1996 when I opened my family guest house, The Bay Atlantic which has gone from strength to strength and in 2002 extended my offering to a selection of Camps Bay apartments.

Camps Bay truly is a great place to base yourself whilst exploring Cape Town. It is only 5 minutes from the City and 8 minutes from Cape Town Stadium and the popular V&A Waterfront. With the Cape Winelands (Stellenbosch, Paarl & Franschoek) and Cape of Good Hope less than 1 hour away, Camps Bay is the best location from which to enjoy the numerous activities & attractions Cape Town has to offer, with the Atlantic Ocean and beautiful Camps Bay beachfront right at your doorstep.

In 2001 I qualified as a tour guide and started my own tour company, African Blue Tours, offering a wide selection of personalised tour and safari packages around South Africa. After living in Camps Bay for over 37 years, I feel that with my wealth of local knowledge and experience of the tourism and hospitality industries, I can ensure you will get the best advice and help for your visit to Cape Town and the rest of South Africa.

Hobbies: big wave surfing, SUP boarding, mountain biking, and of course supporting our Springbok Rugby team.

Heroes: Nelson Mandela …. hands down the greatest President and humanitarian South Africa and the world has known!

Famous quote by David: “If I didn’t have to work, I’d live in the ocean” (referring to his love of the sea)
